Octo Gaming is a free-to-play mobile gaming platform built on Solana that lets users compete in casual and hyper-casual mini-games to earn cryptocurrency rewards and real-world prizes, bridging the gap between mainstream mobile gaming and Web3.

Core Mechanism

Octo Gaming describes its model as a "double reward system based on the competition economy." Players download the Octo app on iOS or Android, choose from a catalogue of mini-games, and earn rewards by competing against other users. Prizes take two forms: the platform's native SPL token OTK (OCTOKN), and tangible goods sourced from brand partners. The competitive structure ties rewards to skill and ranking rather than simply playing time, which the team frames as a more sustainable incentive model than traditional play-to-earn schemes.

The app aims to onboard mainstream mobile gamers. The project's stated mission is to become the number one mobile gaming entertainment platform and drive millions of players from Web2 into Web3. With over four million registered users globally as reported by the project, it represents one of the larger consumer-facing Solana gaming applications by claimed user count.

Platform Features

The game library centres on casual and arcade-style mini-games, many co-developed or co-branded with established Solana NFT collections: Degenerate Ape Academy, DeGods, y00ts, Claynosaurz, Solana Monkey Business, and Chimpers have all featured in the app. Token-branded games using BONK and Samoyedcoin (SAMO) further root the platform in the Solana ecosystem. More recently, Octo Gaming launched a Ponk Bounce casino-style mini-game in collaboration with the Ponke community and an EPIK TAP title tied to the EPIK token.

In January 2025, the team shipped a burn mechanism for OTK and DeFi-style leaderboards, adding token-sink pressure to the economy alongside yield-generating features. Season 1 of Solana Game Pass launched in October 2025 with a $40,000 prize pool, marking a competitive gaming season format for the platform.

The app also functions as a marketing channel for Web3 projects and traditional brands seeking mobile-native Web3 exposure. OTK Token

OCTOKN (OTK) is the platform's native SPL token on Solana and the economic backbone of the Octo ecosystem. It serves as the primary currency for in-app purchases, premium subscription access, and exclusive content unlocks. Players earn OTK through gameplay and competitive finishes; they spend it to access higher-tier game modes and cosmetics.

Total supply sits at approximately 1.2 billion OTK. The token completed a strategic funding round in March 2023 at $0.02967 per token, with Moonrock Capital participating as lead strategic investor. OTK trades on KuCoin, MEXC Global, Raydium, and Orca Whirlpool. Its all-time high reached $0.12 in March 2024. By mid-2025, OTK trades significantly below that peak, reflecting the broader cooldown in play-to-earn token markets.

In February 2025, the team launched liquidity farming pools for OTK paired with SOL on Meteora (offering 80,000 OTK in rewards) and Raydium, expanding DeFi access for token holders. In May 2025, OTK was listed on MEXC, a top-ten global exchange by volume, widening its trading accessibility.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

Octo Gaming sits at the intersection of Solana's mobile-first ambitions and its NFT collection ecosystem. By building the game library around Solana-native IP — apes, dinos, and degen characters — the app creates utility for NFT holders who might otherwise lack interactive products tied to their collections. BONK, a community-driven token with deep grassroots distribution on Solana, features natively in reward pools, reinforcing the platform's connection to the broader Solana community.

On the infrastructure side, OTK liquidity is provided through Raydium and Orca, two of Solana's leading AMMs, while Meteora farming pools add yield options for longer-term holders. This full-stack Solana deployment — SPL token, DEX liquidity, NFT partnerships, and a mobile-aligned product philosophy — positions Octo as a native Solana gaming app rather than a multichain project ported in.

In August 2025 the project announced a Starknet integration, signalling some cross-chain expansion interest, though the core product and token economy remain anchored on Solana.

Team

Octo Gaming was co-founded by Thomas Bourbon and Robin du Fayet in August 2018, initially as a way for gamers to monetize competitive play before blockchain rewards were part of the product. The pivot toward Solana and the OTK token came with the 2022-2023 Web3 gaming wave. The founding date predating the Solana ecosystem gives the team operational experience from before the crypto gaming boom.

Status and Activity

As of mid-2026, Octo Gaming remains operationally active. The Medium publication is updated regularly, the app is live on both major mobile platforms, and new mini-game collaborations continue to ship. The token burn feature, leaderboard DeFi mechanics, seasonal prize pools, and the May 2025 MEXC listing all signal continued development activity.
