Frego

Frego is an AI safety middleware platform on Solana that provides an operating system layer — called FregOS — for governing the behavior of autonomous AI agents. Rather than building AI agents themselves, Frego builds the safety and compliance infrastructure that sits between an AI agent and the actions it is allowed to take. The platform launched in late 2024 with the $FREGO token and a governance framework called the FREGO Constitution.

The Problem

Autonomous AI agents on blockchain networks can execute transactions, sign contracts, and interact with external services without human approval. As these agents become more capable and hold larger sums of value, the risk of misaligned or unsafe behavior grows. Frego addresses this by providing an intermediate layer — the Alignment API — that intercepts agent actions before execution, evaluates them against a configured set of rules and constraints, and either approves, modifies, or blocks them.

FregOS

FregOS is Frego's middleware architecture. It is designed to sit between any AI agent runtime (whether ElizaOS, custom agent code, or another framework) and the external systems that agent interacts with. FregOS implements:

• Behavioral constraints: Rules defined by the agent operator that limit what the agent is permitted to do — e.g., maximum transaction size, allowed protocols, or prohibited action types.
• The Alignment API: A programmatic interface through which agent actions pass before execution. The API evaluates each action against the configured constraints and returns an approval or denial.
• Audit trail: An on-chain or verifiable log of agent actions and their approval decisions, enabling operators to review and audit agent behavior after the fact.

This architecture decouples the AI agent's intelligence (what it wants to do) from the governance layer (what it is allowed to do), making it easier to constrain or update agent behavior without modifying the core agent code.

The FREGO Constitution and DAO Governance

Frego operates with a published FREGO Constitution — a governance document that defines the principles and rules governing how the FregOS middleware evaluates AI agent actions at the protocol level. The Constitution is intended to evolve through DAO governance, with $FREGO token holders participating in votes that update the shared ruleset.

This constitutional governance model is designed to address the challenge of AI safety at the platform level: rather than each agent operator defining their own safety rules in isolation, Frego provides a shared, community-governed safety framework that all agents using FregOS inherit.

$FREGO Token

$FREGO is a Solana SPL token deployed at contract address F9GqoJRPzQnGzvP7cQzLHB7C22DToHQYWfsPvhKwqrpC. Total supply is 920.25 million tokens. The token is used for DAO governance participation — holders vote on FREGO Constitution updates and protocol parameters. $FREGO trades on Meteora.

Team

No individual team member names have been publicly disclosed. The project launched in late 2024 in the same period as the broader AI agent token wave on Solana. No external security audit of the Frego contracts has been publicly published.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

Frego occupies a meta-layer position in the Solana AI agent ecosystem: it is not an agent itself, but infrastructure designed to make agents safer. As the Solana AI agent ecosystem has expanded — with dozens of autonomous agents holding and spending SOL — demand for behavioral constraints and audit infrastructure has grown. Frego's approach of a shared constitutional governance framework addresses the coordination problem of AI safety norms: individual operators benefit from a community-maintained safety standard rather than having to independently define one from scratch. The constitutional DAO model also distinguishes Frego from pure technical middleware products, giving token holders a governance role in defining what "safe" AI agent behavior means on Solana.
