cherry.fun is a crypto-native communication platform built on Solana that lets users message, coordinate, and trade directly between wallets. Where most messaging apps require a phone number, email address, or a centralized account, cherry.fun uses a Solana wallet as the sole identity. There is no KYC, no personal data handed over, and no intermediary holding your messages.

Core Product

The platform is available at chat.cherry.fun and through dedicated iOS and Android applications (developer: Letty Ltd). On iOS the app requires iOS 16.1 or later and has reached version 0.9.0, with macOS and visionOS compatibility also supported. The web and mobile apps share the same account state anchored to a connected Solana wallet.

Messaging on cherry.fun is end-to-end encrypted, meaning messages are not readable by the platform or third parties. The system supports both one-to-one direct messages and multi-wallet group chats, with features such as GIF sharing, message replies, and emoji reactions added progressively through version updates. Beginning with version 0.5.0, standard messages are sent gaslessly, meaning users do not need to sign or pay for a Solana transaction on every message — a practical improvement that removes friction for everyday conversation.

STEM Protocol

The technical foundation beneath cherry.fun is the STEM protocol (Solana Trustless Encrypted Messaging), an open-source, decentralized wallet-to-wallet communication protocol built using Solana's Anchor framework in Rust. The cherry.fun team published STEM as a public contribution to the Solana ecosystem, positioning it as the first open protocol for wallet-native messaging.

STEM works through on-chain wallet registration. A user registers their wallet on-chain, then invites another wallet by its public key. The invitee can accept or decline. Once both sides accept, the channel is open for encrypted messaging. The protocol requires only standard Solana transaction fees and is non-commercial. Supporting developer tooling is published openly on GitHub under the cherrydotfun organization, including a stem-sdk for integrations, a miniapp-sdk for building embedded applications, a chat-embed-sdk (MIT licensed) for external sites to embed cherry.fun chat widgets, and an analytics package.

Token-Gated Communities

Beyond direct messaging, cherry.fun supports what it calls Clubs — group spaces with configurable access rules. Access to a Club can be gated by specific token holdings, NFT ownership, wallet balance thresholds, or custom community rules set by the Club creator. A DeFi protocol, NFT collection, gaming guild, or trading group can establish a member-only space where entry is automatically enforced by on-chain criteria rather than manual allowlists or invite codes. The result is a community coordination layer that sits natively inside the crypto stack without requiring a separate Discord server or Telegram group.

OTC Escrow Trading

cherry.fun includes a peer-to-peer OTC trading layer with built-in escrow. Users can negotiate and settle trades directly within the messaging interface without routing through a centralized exchange or relying on manual trust. The escrow mechanism holds assets on-chain until both parties confirm, reducing counterparty risk in informal OTC transactions — a common pain point in Solana trading communities where deals are frequently arranged through off-chain chat with no settlement guarantee.

Mini Apps Ecosystem

Third-party builders can ship applications inside the cherry.fun chat environment, giving them direct access to active, wallet-connected users without requiring those users to leave the messaging context, create new accounts, or navigate to a separate interface. Jupiter Swap has been referenced as an integration, enabling in-chat token swaps. The miniapp-sdk and apps-sdk repositories on GitHub provide the developer tooling for this ecosystem.

Ecosystem Integrations and Partnerships

cherry.fun has been actively integrating with other Solana projects to embed its chat layer inside their communities. Recent examples include:

  • Backyard.fi, a yield strategy platform on Solana, ran a multi-week quest campaign through cherry.fun using the Club infrastructure to host community coordination and reward participants.
  • Raffle.sol, a Solana raffle platform, embedded cherry.fun so its users can communicate inside the app, with cherry.fun's chat appearing natively within the Raffle.sol interface.
  • Moonwalk Fitness featured cherry.fun in a Seeker Summer campaign in partnership with Solana Mobile.

These integrations reflect cherry.fun's positioning as embeddable social infrastructure rather than a standalone messenger. The chat-embed-sdk allows other Solana applications to pull cherry.fun conversations into their own interfaces with no separate login required for users.

No Native Token

As of the time of writing, cherry.fun has not launched a native token. The platform is free to use beyond standard Solana network fees for on-chain operations.

Audits and Security

The STEM protocol is open source and publicly auditable on GitHub. No third-party security audit has been publicly announced for the smart contract layer. The app collects usage data and product interaction analytics that may be linked to user identity for analytics purposes, which users should factor into their privacy expectations for the off-chain messaging layer.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

cherry.fun addresses a genuine coordination gap in the Solana ecosystem. Trading, gaming, and DeFi communities that previously relied on Discord or Telegram — platforms where wallet identity must be manually verified and OTC settlement is handled on trust — can instead use cherry.fun to combine wallet-native identity, encrypted communication, token-gated communities, and escrow-settled trades in a single interface.
