About

arc

arc (AI Rig Complex) is an open-source, Rust-based AI agent framework and Solana ecosystem built by Playgrounds Analytics Inc. The project centers on Rig, a modular library for developing LLM-powered applications, wrapped in a token economy and developer marketplace under the arc.fun brand. Where competing frameworks like ElizaOS (TypeScript) and ZerePy (Python) built on scripting languages, arc made a deliberate bet that Rust's performance characteristics and alignment with Solana's native toolchain would be the durable technical differentiator in agentic AI infrastructure.

The Rig Framework

Rig is the technical core of the arc ecosystem — an MIT-licensed Rust library published at github.com/0xPlaygrounds/rig. Its design follows a provider-neutral architecture split into two packages:

rig-core defines the contracts: message formats, model interfaces, tool definitions, memory primitives, and vector store abstractions. No provider-specific code lives here, making it possible to swap underlying LLM or data layer providers without rewriting application logic.

rig-agent builds on top: agent orchestration, builder patterns, streaming traits, and state management for running multi-turn agentic workflows.

The library supports more than 20 LLM providers through a single unified interface — including OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Deepseek, Perplexity, and Ollama — and integrates with 10+ vector store backends (MongoDB, LanceDB, Neo4j, Qdrant, and SQLite). It handles completion, embedding, transcription, audio generation, and image generation workflows and includes WASM/browser support for portable deployments. The team notes that future releases will contain breaking changes, a signal of active iteration rather than stagnation.

As of mid-2026, the repository has accumulated more than 8,200 GitHub stars and nearly 930 forks, with adoption across crypto-native and traditional technology use cases — including St. Jude for genomics visualization, Coral Protocol, Neon database, Dria, and Nethermind.

The Rust Bet

The decision to build in Rust was deliberate and has defined arc's positioning throughout the AI agent boom that began in late 2024. Rust's type system catches bugs at compile time rather than runtime, eliminating whole categories of memory errors, data races, and unpredictable failures common in Python agent deployments. Rust's zero-cost abstractions and the Tokio async runtime enable high-throughput parallel agent execution without the overhead Python and TypeScript runtimes carry.

The practical significance for Solana is direct: Solana's on-chain programs are written in Rust, meaning arc developers and Solana smart contract engineers share a common language and toolchain. That alignment made arc a natural pairing in Solana's ecosystem narrative during the peak AI agent period of early 2025, when the project was regularly positioned as "the best Rust-based AI framework" for "the best Rust-based Layer 1."

Arc Platform: Handshake and ARC Forge

Beyond the framework itself, arc.fun operates two programs that turn Rig into an ecosystem rather than a standalone library.

Handshake is a vetted developer onboarding mechanism. Unlike open launchpads where any project can deploy, Handshake requires a formal proposal detailing project goals, technical approach, and team credentials, plus a 500 $ARC application deposit to reduce spam. Submissions are reviewed by the core team and community before a project earns a marketplace listing. The team designed this grant-style vetting around the reality that Rust development requires longer cycles and more specialized expertise than Python or TypeScript alternatives, making quality filters more meaningful here.

ARC Forge is a token launch platform built on Meteora's liquidity market maker, allowing vetted arc-based projects to issue and launch tokens within the arc ecosystem. It closes the loop between developer onboarding and agent monetization.

Token: $ARC

The $ARC token launched on Solana via pump.fun in December 2024, with approximately 1 billion total supply. The allocation distributed 90% to circulating supply at launch, 4.5% to the team on a one-year vesting schedule, and 5.5% to a prize pool and treasury. The token serves as the application currency within the platform — used for Handshake deposits and ecosystem incentive mechanisms.

$ARC peaked at roughly a $300 million fully diluted valuation in early 2025 during the AI agent token surge. The token extended to the Polygon network in February 2025. As of mid-2026, it trades at approximately $0.05, reflecting the broad retracement across the AI agent token category rather than any project-specific failure. At its peak, the project had approximately 203,000 token holders, 48,000+ X followers, and 4,000+ Telegram members.

Team

Playgrounds was co-founded by three people with backgrounds spanning physics, blockchain infrastructure, and software architecture.

Jephthah (Tachi, @0thTachi) is the technical architecture lead and CEO. Before entering blockchain development, he conducted research in nuclear physics and aerospace engineering at the Southwest Research Institute. Earlier Playgrounds projects include the first Ordinals/Inscriptions API and Subgrounds, a Python library for querying The Graph-indexed blockchain data — establishing the team's track record in developer-facing infrastructure before arc.

Thierry (0xJoBlo) is Chief Product Officer and a technical advisor to The Graph Protocol network committee, bringing protocol-level ecosystem experience to the project's positioning.

Christophe Vauclair is CTO, responsible for software architecture.

Status and Outlook

arc is an active, maintained project. The Rig framework is the durable technical asset — its GitHub trajectory of 8,200+ stars and adoption outside crypto suggests it has found genuine product-market fit as a Rust-native AI library, independent of the $ARC token's price performance. The arc.fun platform provides the Solana-native token economy and developer marketplace on top of that foundation.

The token decline from its 2025 peak is consistent with the broad AI agent token market correction of mid-2025 rather than a project-specific signal. The underlying infrastructure continues to develop, with Rig's active versioning and the team's ongoing engagement in Solana's developer ecosystem.

Developers looking for a Rust-first, provider-agnostic framework for building production AI agents — particularly those already working with Solana programs — represent the clearest fit for what arc offers. The framework's scope now extends to non-blockchain use cases as well, which broadens its addressable developer community beyond Solana specifically.
