Dexter is payments infrastructure for the agentic web — a non-custodial wallet system and x402 payment facilitator built to give AI agents their own spending accounts while keeping users in full cryptographic control. The project, operated by Dexter Intelligence DAO LLC, launched on Solana mainnet on July 2, 2026.\n\nThe problem Dexter addresses is practical: as AI agents take on autonomous tasks — trading, research, API calls, compute provisioning — they need a way to pay for services without the user surrendering an unrestricted private key. Each tab carries a capped spending limit enforced by the chain itself, not by application policy. Multiple agents can operate simultaneously from one wallet, each isolated within its own tab; one agent's activity cannot affect another's allocation or the main balance. Users can revoke any tab instantly with their passkey.\n\nThe protocol governing this construction is published as an IETF Internet-Draft under the name Open Tabs Standard (draft-sander-open-tabs-passkey). Dexter also ships SDKs — the @dexterai/x402 and @dexterai/vault npm packages — that give TypeScript developers the primitives to integrate passkey wallet and spending-limit logic into their own agents.\n\n## x402 Facilitator\n\nDexter operates as a free x402 facilitator at x402.dexter.cash. The x402 protocol reuses HTTP's 402 Payment Required status code to enable automatic stablecoin micropayments at the API layer: a service sets a USDC fee per endpoint, and a client agent pays on the first request and proceeds immediately. Coinbase has championed x402 as an open standard.\n\nDexter is the only free facilitator in the ecosystem, charging no fee on settled payments. The service runs across eleven blockchains: Solana, Base, Polygon, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Optimism, BNB Smart Chain, SKALE, World Chain, Monad, and Robinhood Chain. On Solana, the facilitator simulates transactions and inspects the CPI tree for matching USDC TransferChecked operations, enabling settlement from smart wallets including Squads, SWIG, and SPL Governance accounts.\n\nAs of mid-2026, the facilitator has processed over 5.7 million dollars across more than 33.5 million individual settlements, with an average settlement value of approximately 0.17 dollars — consistent with pay-per-API-call micropayment use cases. The default public tier supports 20,000 settlements per day with gas sponsorship; a featured tier scales to 500,000 settlements per day.\n\n## MCP Integration\n\nDexter ships dual Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. The authenticated server at mcp.dexter.cash connects to Claude and ChatGPT via OAuth and routes payments through a managed Dexter wallet. The public server at open.dexter.cash requires no authentication and uses session wallets funded directly by users, with sessions persisting for thirty days.\n\nBoth servers expose approximately ten tool bundles covering x402 discovery and payment, Solana trading and market data via Birdeye, Hyperliquid trading, web search, wallet management, and onchain analytics. Dexter Lab is an AI-powered API builder that generates and deploys x402-priced endpoints from natural language descriptions.\n\n## Additional Products and Integrations\n\nDexter Voice pairs the OpenAI Realtime API with MCP tools and x402 payments, enabling hands-free commands through smartphones and Amazon Alexa. X/Twitter and Telegram integrations allow transaction execution and notifications via those channels. Dexter Shield routes transfers through temporary anonymous addresses to obscure direct sender-recipient linkage. x402gle is a real-time ecosystem explorer indexing x402 activity across eight blockchains.\n\nThe Dexter-DAO GitHub organization also ships nansen-x402, an autonomous wallet forensics agent that funds its own API access through x402 payments, and skillsmith-cli, a terminal tool for composing and testing x402 skills with live paid test runs.\n\n## Token\n\nThe DEXTER token launched in late 2025 on Solana via Pump.fun.
