Darklake
Darklake was a Solana-native zero-knowledge privacy protocol founded in 2024 that built privacy infrastructure for on-chain trading, most notably the Zyga ZK proof system and a blind slippage pool designed to eliminate MEV attacks at the point of execution. In April 2026, Darklake Labs was acquired by SOL Strategies Inc. for USD $1.2 million, and its team and technology were absorbed into that company. The darklake.fi domain now redirects to SOL Strategies; the project's independent documentation and blog are offline.
What Darklake Built
Darklake Labs identified a core vulnerability in public AMMs: because swap parameters — slippage tolerance, order size, price preferences — are visible on-chain before a transaction is finalized, MEV bots can front-run trades or execute sandwich attacks, extracting value from ordinary users at scale. The team's answer was to apply zero-knowledge proofs at the execution layer rather than routing trades off-chain or relying on obscured mempools.
Their flagship product was the Blind Spot Slippage Pool, a zk-AMM that adds a cryptographic commitment layer on top of a standard automated market maker. When a user initiates a swap, the protocol generates a hash and encrypted value representing the trade's parameters — crucially, the slippage threshold — before the transaction reaches the block. Darklake's proof engine then verifies that the actual execution outcome falls within the committed slippage range. Valid trades settle; those that fall outside the committed range are cancelled with a full refund. Searchers can verify post-trade outcomes, but cannot read pre-trade intent — this asymmetry strips MEV bots of the information they need to front-run or sandwich.
The protocol also built ZK-Perps, an extension of the privacy model into perpetual futures contracts. This product leveraged both Zyga and the compute layer provided by [[PROJECT:236]] (Arcium), a multi-party computation network on Solana. While Zyga protected pre-trade inputs through ZK proofs, Arcium's MPC layer provided shared private state and post-trade privacy, creating a complementary full-stack privacy arrangement for perpetual contract trading.
The Zyga Proof System
Darklake's most technically significant contribution was Zyga, a pairing-based zero-knowledge proof system engineered for the specific demands of Solana DeFi. The system was co-developed by the team and published to the IACR ePrint Archive as a formal academic paper ("Zyga: Optimized Zero-Knowledge Proofs with Dynamic Public Inputs," 2025), authored by Tiago A. O. Alves and Vitor Py Braga.
Zyga's core innovation addresses a constraint shared by most ZK constructions: once a proof is generated, all inputs — public and private — are locked. Any change to market conditions, oracle prices, or interest rates requires a complete re-proof from scratch, which is computationally expensive and impractical for real-time trading environments.
Zyga enables dynamic public input substitution during verification. The system separates inputs into two categories:
- Private inputs — trade sizes, slippage thresholds, portfolio composition — are fixed at proof generation time and kept secret.
- Public inputs — oracle-fed prices, exchange rates, interest rates — can be updated at verification time without invalidating the proof.
This separation means a single proof remains valid as market conditions change, without requiring recomputation. Zyga achieves this through a one-sided encoding mechanism that avoids expensive G2 scalar multiplications, keeping verification costs practical for on-chain deployment. Verification requires only three to four pairings with a constant proof size. Security is grounded in standard cryptographic assumptions: the discrete logarithm problem and the q-Strong Diffie-Hellman assumption.
Darklake also published research on a two-sided encoding extension, which removes constraints on circuit structure by incorporating a private commitment mechanism and rebase functionality, enabling arbitrary R1CS circuits with proof reuse. Academic research partnerships with two Brazilian universities supported this work, and a patent application was filed.
A developer-facing integration SDK accompanied Zyga, providing a lightweight API allowing existing Solana protocols — AMMs, lending venues, structured trading strategies — to adopt proof-based privacy verification without internal modifications. Darklake had begun positioning this SDK as a foundation for a broader infrastructure layer it called "Proof as Intelligence," enabling third-party applications to privately verify, connect, and compute using the same primitives.
Ecosystem Recognition
Darklake was recognized within the Solana ecosystem before its acquisition. The team placed second in the DeFi track of the Solana Radar Global Hackathon and was accepted into the Colosseum Accelerator, Solana's flagship startup program. These achievements gave Darklake Labs credibility as one of the more technically rigorous entrants in Solana's emerging privacy layer.
The partnership with [[PROJECT:236]] Arcium was public and mutually beneficial: Darklake contributed ZK-native pre-trade privacy, while Arcium contributed MPC-based shared private computation for post-trade coordination. Together, the two projects described a complete privacy stack for DeFi on Solana — from order submission to settlement.

SOL Strategies Inc., a Canadian public company listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange focused on Solana infrastructure and validator operations, announced the acquisition of Darklake Labs' assets on April 7, 2026. The deal closed shortly after, with the Darklake team joining SOL Strategies directly. The acquisition price was USD $1.2 million, structured as $200,000 in cash and $1,000,000 in SOL Strategies common shares based on a five-day volume-weighted average trading price, subject to a four-month statutory lock-up.
SOL Strategies' stated rationale was that privacy represents a necessary primitive for bringing institutional finance on-chain. CEO Michael Hubbard framed it as a step toward owning critical infrastructure rather than simply operating validators. The Zyga technology continues to be developed under the SOL Strategies umbrella, with Tiago Alves leading expanded ZK research operations.
Darklake's independent website, documentation, and blog are no longer accessible. The project should be considered acquired and absorbed rather than abandoned — its technology survives, but not as an independent protocol.
